ABOUT

Pleasant Square Community Center (PSCC) is a collaborative non-profit, 501(c)(3) with a volunteer board working to build and operate an 11,000 square foot multi-purpose, 7-day per week, facility in the walkable downtown Pleasant Square Neighborhood. The building is designed to serve specified needs identified through research and evidence-based community engagement. Our wide range of programs and services are being developed by PSCC and our partners for people of all ages and demographics. Spaces include a commercial kitchen, junior gymnasium/multipurpose room, interfaith chapel/multi-media room, economic growth center, and classrooms.

MISSION

The Pleasant Square Community Center collaborates with diverse partners to create research and evidence-based community engagement toward spiritual, social, physical and economic health.

VISION

We envision a facility designed to include gathering spaces for community dialog and lifelong learning. Our plan includes a mixture of amenities centered around the intention of being an integral part of a self-sustaining healthy community.

BUILDING PLANS

The community center building is shovel ready. PSCC has a City of Lebanon and Warren County approved and permitted architectural plan. The project has undergone one round of construction bids. We have a 100-year land lease, renewable in perpetuity, for $1 per year from landowner Bethel AME Church at 311 N. Cherry Street, Lebanon, Ohio 45036. PSCC will manage, and maintain the building. With funding, we plan to be operational in 18 months time.

DONATE

PSCC is currently fundraising to include major gifts and naming opportunities. Our endowment and capital funds are managed by the Warren County Foundation (WCF). To donate online to PSCC visit https://www.pscc311nc.org and for more information about WCF, visit https://www.warrencountyfoundation.org/.
We kicked off fundraising with a party and silent auction February 2023. We began working with Warren County Foundation and hired 19 Services grant writers to pursue a wide range of funding opportunities. We also accepted a $10,000 annual endowment and major donations for naming rights for the interfaith chapel/multi-media room, administration office, and two classrooms. PSCC received a $75,000 State of Ohio Capital Grant and large construction material donations
to date.

HISTORY

After the Bethel AME Church burned at 111 N. Cherry Street, next steps were considered. Through a Flourishing Community process, the Church identified the opportunity to serve their congregation and greater community with a community center. There was once two Community Centers in town- now both gone. Bethel AME purchased the land at 311 N. Cherry Street, Lebanon, Ohio and assumed the role of Lead Agency for PSCC.
